Claude Monet was a great French artist of the 19th century. He is the founding father of the Impressionist style of painting. As a matter of fact, he is one of the greatest art creators of the modern era. From his artwork ‘Impression: Sunrise’ the term ‘Impressionism’ derived in the world of art.

Claude Monet born on 14 November in 1840 in Paris, France. His father Adolphe was a shipping businessman and mother Louise was a housewife. His mother was a well-known singer and admirer of art and poetry. So Monet got his first attraction towards art from his mother.

Monet’s family moved to Le Havre in 1845. There he started to go to school. In spite of being a good student, he didn’t like the school very much. He loved to spend his time to enjoy the natural scenes. Monet liked drawing from an early age. He often used to draw in his schoolbooks. Though his father didn’t like his passion towards art very much, Monet’s mother supported him. He became very famous in his community for his drawing. He started to adapting nature landscape under the influence of Eugene Boudin. This influence provoked him much in his later part of life.

Monet went to Paris in 1859 to study art. There he admitted into Academie Suisse and met Camille Pissarro. He went to Algeria to serve the military in 1861 and returned from there for health reason in 1862. This time Monet met many artists like Renoir, Sisley, and Bazille, who became famous impressionists later. He used to work outside along with Renoir and Bazille. The juries of annual art show accepted two of his works to show in Paris. In spite of achieving praise, Monet was still insolvent financially. In 1861 another two of his paintings saw the light of the annual art show, but his financial state didn’t change that much.   Even once he tried to commit suicide in 1868.

Monet’s condition became better when Louis Joachim Guadibert became his patron. In 1870 he went to England and Paul Durand-Ruel became his first art dealer. He returned to France in 1872 and settled in Paris. There he finally developed his own style of painting. ‘Impression Sunrise’, ‘Poppies’, ‘The Water Lily Pond’, ‘Beach in Pourville’, ‘Springtime’, ‘Snow at Argenteuil’ etc. are some of his ageless works.

Claude Monet died on 5 December in 1926. Critics still recognize him as the founding father of Impressionism and one of the greatest artists of the world.

Edwin Hubble was a world famous astronomer and physicist. His research on astrophysics helped modern time physicists in many respects. As a matter of fact, he created a sort of revolution in the field of astrophysics. His research works helped to prove that the existing universe is expanding. He also introduced a classification of the galaxies. Scientists used his methods for many decades.

Hubble born on 20 November in 1889. His father’s name was John Powell Hubble and mother’s Virginia Lee Hubble. He liked science fiction very much from his childhood. His interest towards science grew from his early days.

His family moved to Chicago when he was 10. He began to go to school there. He was very good at sports and athletics there. In 1906 he received a scholarship to study at University of Chicago. He achieved graduation in 1910. Then he went to Oxford and obtained a bachelor’s degree in jurisprudence.

At first, he took teaching in Indiana as a profession. Then he returned to Chicago University to study astronomy and later completed his Ph.D. He worked for the Mount Wilson Observatory to develop Hooker telescope.

Edwin Hubble, through his research- became able to prove that other galaxies are located outside of the Milky Way. He took various photos through the Hooker’s telescope and compared them with new methods. He also estimated that Andromeda Nebula was about 900,000 light-years away from the Milky way and it may have its own galaxy. Actually, his method was right, and the Andromeda was farther than his estimation. After that, scientists named it Andromeda Galaxy.

Hubble’s real and extraordinary merit came out when he researched about the redshifts of the light emissions of the galaxies. Soon after, he along with Milton Humason proved that the galaxies of the universe are moving away from each other. He achieved Medal of Merit for his research. The Big Bang theory, which is one of the most influential theories in astrophysics and cosmology- emerged from his research works.

Sun Yat Sen was a Chinese politician, revolutionary and physician. Again he is the founding father of the Republic of China. Sun Yat Sen played very important role to finish the feudal monarchy and form a modern republic in China. In fact, he was a unique figure in post-imperial China.

Sun born on 12 November in 1866. His father was a farmer. His merchant brother bore the cost of his childhood education. Sun Yat Sen got his education in Honolulu and studied medicine in Hong Kong. After that, he continued his studying medicine until 1892.

From the time of graduation, Sun became involved in politics. He believed that China will remain backward if the dying Manchu dynasty ruled it. He maintained connections with other revolutionaries. Then he traveled Europe and America to raise awareness among the Chinese people.

Sun Yat Sen
Sun Yat Sen

In 1895 he tried to start a revolt against the Manchu dynasty but failed. He fled to London and Kidnapped by the officials of the Chinese embassy. The protests of British government saved his life. His three principles nationalism, democracy, and socialism helped to form the ‘League of Common Alliance’ and Kuomintang in 1898 and later.

In 1911 Chinese revolution against Manchu dynasty started. It overthrew the dynasty. Sun soon returned to China from America during the revolution. Assembly of Nanking elected him as the ‘President of the United Provinces of China’. But after the revolution, China did not become a good republic. The destructive reign of the warlords remained in many provinces. Moreover, Sun was an influential leader in the areas of Canton.

In 1921 the communist party of China was formed. Sun decided to co-operate with the communists. This incident helped him to get strategic help from the USSR. By this co-operation, he reformed his party and extended it to many provinces. USSR also helped to reform the Kuomintang Army as a well-organised force. After that, Sun sent Chiang kai Shek to Moscow for higher military and political education. But the co-operation between Kuomintang and communists ended soon.

Sun Yat Sen died of cancer in 1925. Chinese people still consider him as one of their important leaders.

Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian and American film actress and inventor. Lamarr appeared in numerous popular feature films, including Algiers (1938) with Charles Boyer, I Take This Woman (1940) with Spencer Tracy, Comrade X (1940) with Clark Gable, Come Live With Me (1941) with James Stewart, H.M. Pulham, Esq. (1941) with Robert Young, and Samson and Delilah (1949) with Victor Mature. After an early and brief film career in Germany, which included a controversial love-making scene in the film Ecstasy (1933), she fled her husband and secretly moved to Paris. While there, she met MGM head Louis B. Mayer, who offered her a movie contract in Hollywood, where she became a film star from the late 1930s to the 1950s. During her first marriage, Lamarr developed an interest in applied science, and bored by her acting career, utilized this knowledge as an inventor. At the commencement of World War II, keen to aid the Allied war effort, she identified jamming of Allied radio communications by the Axis as a particular problem, and with composer George Antheil, developed spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology to defeat it. Though the US Navy did not adopt the technology until the 1960s, the principles of her work are now incorporated into modern Wi-Fi, CDMA and Bluetooth technology, and this work led to her being inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014. On November 9th 2015, the search engine Google displayed a Doodle celebrating her 101st birthday, this doodle also included a small film clip about her life.
