Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a famous french artist. He is one of the leading personalities who developed the painting style of impressionism. Feminine sensuality was one of the core centers of his works of art. As a matter of fact, he is one of the best artists of the 20th century.

Renoir born on 25 February in 1841 in Limoges, France. His father was a tailor and mother was a seamstress. Renoir was the 6th child among his siblings. The family moved to Paris near to Louvre Museum in 1846. Renoir became a drawing apprentice in a porcelain factory. His duty was to paint plates and cups. When the factory became closed, he started working in another place. He visited Louvre for many times to study the earlier french grandmasters.

Renoir started to study painting solemnly in 1862. He met Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, and Bazille. But critics say the mainly Edward Manet influenced Renoir very much. In the 60’s of the 19th century, Renoir experienced much poverty and misery. And traditional art critics rejected his works for the show. He decided to develop his style with a more sophisticated method of drawing. In 1869 Renoir and Monet started their experiments on nature and the effect of light. As a matter of fact, this time was the key period of the further development of the impressionist style. Gradually, Renoir was able to draw the attention of art dealers. He started to paint portraits and got many rich supporters who helped the impressionist against the current of the traditional approach. He painted many of his important and ageless works at this time.

In the 1880’s Renoir was becoming separated from the other impressionists. Actually, he didn’t like the culture of a cult which grew around the rebel impressionist artists. After the 1880’s he painted many of his outstanding works which contained nude girls and nature.

‘Luncheon of The Boating Party’, ‘The Bathers’, ‘The Large Bathers’, ‘Girl With A Hoop’, ‘The Grands Boulevards’, ‘Algerian Girl’, ‘The Skiff’ etc. are his famous and ageless works of art.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir died on 3 December 1919 in southeast France. He is one of the greatest artists who developed completely new style and aesthetics.
