Manna Dey

Prabodh Chandra Dey, a legendry figure in Indian music. He is batter known as Manna Dey, is an Indian playback singer. He has sung in Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Assamese films. Dey has sung around 1262 songs in Bengali. He sung songs in most of the languages of India like Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Magahdh, Punjabi, Maithilee, Konkani, Sindhri and Chattisgarghi. Dey also performed Rabindra Sangeet and has recorded over 4000 songs. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007. His most famous Songs are Amar Bhupali, Yeh Dosti Hum Nehi Torenge, Ek Chatur Naar, Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Kashmir Ki Kali, Neel Kamal. He was under the mesmeric spell of his illustrious uncle K.C. Dey, the well-known singer and popular star of New Theaters.
Manna Dey married to Sulochana Kumaran on 18 December 1953 and they have a couple of daughter named Shuroma and Sumita.
He died of a cardiac arrest at 3:50 AM on 24 October 2013 at Narayana Hrudayalaya.
