Beyoncé Knowles, in full Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actress. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as lead singer of the R&B girl-group Destiny’s Child. Beyoncé is a multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning recording artist who’s acclaimed for her thrilling vocals, videos and live shows. She performed in various singing and dancing competitions as a child. Beyoncé won her first school talent show with her rendition of “Imagine” by John Lennon. Knowles has also starred in several films, including Dream Girls.

At age nine Beyoncé formed the singing-rapping girl group Destiny’s Child (originally called Girl’s Tyme) in 1990 with childhood friends. She was the lead singer of the all-girl R&B group Destiny’s Child. In 1992 the group lost on the Star Search television talent show, and three years later it was dropped from a recording contract before an album had been released. She released her first album Dangerously in Love in 2003 when Destiny’s Child was on a break. Since then, she has released five more albums, which have all produced hit singles.

Beyoncé was born on September 4, 1981, to Celestine “Tina” Knowles (née Beyincé), a hairdresser and salon owner, and Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager. Beyoncé’s name is a tribute to her mother’s maiden name. Her mother is of Louisiana Creole descent, which means she has some African and French roots. Her father is African American. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé went to several performing arts schools and took part in singing and dancing competitions as a child. In her youth, she started the girl group Girls Tyme. Her father Mathew became her manager. Her younger sister, Solange Knowles, is also a singer and a former backup dancer for Destiny’s Child.

Beyoncé‘s career began as the lead vocalist of Destiny’s Child. She started singing at an early age, competing in local talent shows and winning many of these events by impressing audiences with her singing and dancing abilities. She released her first solo album, Dangerously in Love (2003), during the hiatus of Destiny’s Child. American singer and songwriter Beyoncé has released six studio albums, four live albums, three compilation albums, five EPs, one soundtrack album, one mixtape, two karaoke albums, and 62 singles (including 12 as a featured artist, nine promotional singles and five charity singles). Throughout her career, Beyoncé has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the world’s best-selling music artists. She has won 22 Grammy Awards and is the most nominated woman in the award’s history.

She first appeared in the 1999 music video for Case’s “Happily Ever After”, after which she made her film debut as the lead in the direct-to-video musical Carmen: A Hip Hopera (2001).

Destiny’s Child reunited in 2004 to release Destiny Fulfilled. While generally not as acclaimed as the group’s previous efforts, the album sold more than seven million copies worldwide and spawned several hit singles.

Her album, Beyoncé, released in 2013, was critically acclaimed for its experimental production and departure from her previous work. In 2014, she ranked atop of Forbes ‘ Celebrity 100 was listed among the 100 most influential people in the world by Time.

Beyoncé and Jay Z welcomed a baby daughter, Blue Ivy Carter on January 7, 2012. The couple spared no expense to maintain their privacy during this special time, renting out a floor of New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital.

In June 2017, the couple welcomed twins Sir Carter, the son and Rumi Carter, the daughter.

In addition to acting and performing, Beyoncé ran a clothing line called House of Dereon with her mother. She also launched her own fragrance, Heat, in 2010. Throughout her career, Beyoncé has served as a spokesperson and model for several other brands, including L’Oreal and Tommy Hilfiger.

One of her favorite songs is “Lovefool” by The Cardigans. Her favorite item of clothing is a pair of path work metallic boots. She writes & produces many of the group’s songs, including smash hits “Jumpin Jumpin”, “Bootylicious”, “Nasty Girl”, “Independent Women”, “Happy Face” and “Apple Pie a la mode”.
