Mel B is a British pop singer. She is best known for being a member of the hit group Spice girls. She was known as Scary Spice. She is known as Mel B or Melanie B to be distinguished from fellow spice girl Melanie C.

Mel B was born as Melanie Janine Brown on 29 May 1975 in Harehills, Leeds. She is the daughter of Andrea and Martin Brown. Brown studied performing arts at Intake High School. She worked as a dancer at a resort hotel. Her first group was called Touch, which regrouped as the Spice Girls after teaming with Simon Fuller.

Mel B along with Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Adams responded to an advertisement. They formed Spice Girls together with help from Simon Fuller. The Spice Girls have sold over 80 million records worldwide. They are the best selling girl group in the world. Their single Wannabe hit no.1 in 37 countries. She went on to have a successful single career too.

Mel B married Dutch dancer Jimmy Gulzar in 1998. They split up in 2000. Husband Gulzar stated the reason was her breast implants and Adultery. She also had a high profile relationship with Eddie Murphy in 2006. They have a child together. She is currently married to Stephen Belafonte.
