Alice Cooper is an American singer. Cooper is considered  to be “The Godfather of Shock Rock”. His career spans five decades. He is best known for being the founder and main vocal of the band Alice Cooper. In 2011, the original Alice Cooper band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Cooper was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 4, 1948. He was born as Vincent Damon Furnier. While growing up in Detroit, he attended Washington Elementary School. He moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona. He attended Cortez High School in north Phoenix.

In 1968 he changed his bands name and renamed in Alice Cooper and also adopted the stage name. The classic Alice Cooper group lineup consisted of Furnier, lead guitarist Glen Buxton, rhythm guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith. Their first album Pretties for You was released in 1969. It was a failure. Love It to Death proved to be their breakthrough album in 1970. In 1975, Alice Cooper returned as a solo artist with the release of Welcome to My Nightmare. Such was the immense success of Cooper’s solo project that he decided to continue as a solo artist. He uses snakes, lighting, makeup in his stage performances. He has that unusual presence need to get attention. He made a cameo appearance in Johnny Depp movie Dark Shadows.

He is a huge fan of The Simpsons. He legally changed his name to Alice Cooper in the 80’s. He had struggles with alcohol and drug abuse in the 80’s. He married dancer Sheryl Goddard in 1976. The couple have three children.
