Rupam Islam is a famous Indian Playback Singer from Kolkata. He is also a composer, songwriter and the lead singer of his Bangla Band Fossils. For his wonderful work as Male Playback Singer in ‘Mahanagar@kolkata’, he won National Film Award in 2010. The government of West Bengal’s cultural committee selected him for being a member of Bangla Sangeet Academy.

Rupam Islam was born on January 25, 1974, in a Bengali Family. His father Nurul Islam and mother Chandita Islam both were renowned musicians of their time. Rupam started his journey of music under the patronage of his parents. His first stage performance was at age of four, in ‘Jhankar Shilpi Goshthi’. Then, by nine he becomes part of ‘Aakashvani and Doordarshan’ and performed at many leading places of Kolkata.

Besides music, he has done his Graduation in English Literature from Asutosh College(University of Calcutta) and completed his B.Ed as well. Then he worked as a teacher of English in a primary school. After eleven years in 2006, he decided to retire and focused on building his music career.

Michael Jackson, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Gautam Chattopadhyay and James were his inspiration. He started his own Band named ‘Fossils’ in 1998 and within 5 years they achieved the position of best Bengali Rock Band. This band has five super-hit record-breaking album.

Rupam Islam done his first solo album ‘Tor Bhorshate’ n 1998. Additionally, he came up with a duo album RnB (Rupam and Bumpy) in 2007. It was a best seller album of that year. He also gave many back to back superhit and Most-sold-albums in that year and got awarded.

In 2006 he published his first book of songs ‘Epitaph’ and in 2009 second book ‘Rupam on the Rocks’, both were the hottest sellers of Ananda Publishers.

Additionally in2007, Rupam made his first Hindi debut in the film ‘Jannat’ and then sang ‘Dil Kare’ in the film All the Best (2009). He also entered in Telegu film industry with a hit song in 2014. Rupam sang playback music in more than 30 Hindi and Bengali films. He received a number of awards like National film award, Best modern Singer Award etc. during 2009 to 2011 for his playbacks.

Rupam’s remarkable playback for films are ‘Beche Thakar Gaan’ in Autograph, ‘Ei Srabon’ in 22se Srabon, and Piyalir Password, Cholo Let’s go, Olot palot, Icche, Bedroom etc.

Rupam married Ruspsha Dasgupta and have a baby boy named Rup Aarohan Prometheus.
