Ernie Barbarash is a film producer, screenwriter, and film director. Ernie is best known for the films Cube and American Psycho franchises.

He rose to fame as co-producer of the films American Psycho 2, Cube 2: Hypercube, Prisoner of Love, The First 9½ Weeks and The Cat’s Meow. Barbarash also wrote and directed Cube Zero and Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming. He also directed the Canadian horror thriller They Wait (2007), starring Jaime King & Regan Oey.

Early Life

Ernie Barbarash was born on August 31, 1968, in what is now Ukraine back when it was the Soviet Union. He grew up in Ukraine and Canada. Barbarash was interested in theater at the early age.


Barbarash began his career at the end of the 1990s as a co-producer.

In 2000, he co-produced Mary Harron‘s black comedy horror film American Psycho, stars Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas, Chloë Sevigny, Samantha Mathis, Cara Seymour, Justin Theroux, and Reese Witherspoon. The film was a financial success and received generally positive reviews.

In 2002 he produced American Psycho 2, directed by Morgan J. Freeman, starring Mila Kunis & William Shatner.

Ernie made his debut as a scriptwriter in 2002’s science fiction horror film Cube 2: Hypercube, directed by Andrzej Sekuła. The original screenplay was written by Sean Hood.

He made his directorial debut in 2004 with Cube Zero, a prequel to Cube 2: Hypercube (2002).

Ernie Barbarash‘s previous film to hit the theatres was Assassination Games in the year 2011, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Scott Adkins.

In 2017 he directed Christmas Inheritance, Distributed by Netflix & The Saint, TV Movie.
