Jean-Claude Van Damme is a Belgian actor. He is also a former martial artist. Van Damme is known for his intense action films. He is a living legend of the Action genre. Van Damme is one of the greatest actions stars in history. His most successful films are Bloodsport, Universal Soldier, Street Fighter and The Expendables 2.
Early Life
Van Damme was born as Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg. He was born on 18 October 1960. He hails from Brussels in Belgium. Eliana and Eugène Van Varenberg are his parents. Van Damme was enrolled into a karate school by his dad. He was ten at the time. Shotokan Karate and Kickboxing are his styles. He earned a black belt in karate at the age of 18. He later started weightlifting. He became Mr. Belgium. He later took Taekwondo and Muay Thai.
Career
From 1977 to 1982 Van Damme was a professional kickboxer. He had a record of 18 wins and 1 loss. He also had an impressive semi contact career. In semi contact, he had 44 wins and 4 losses. After this, he moved to the United States to become an action star.
Van Damme’s breakthrough role was Bloodsport in 1988. He portrayed Frank Dux in the film. It was a box office hit. Since then he has worked in numerous action blockbusters in the 90’s. His other notable films are Double Impact, Universal Soldier, Hard Target, Maximum Risk, In Hell, Assassination Games and The Expendables 2. He was the main villain in the star-studded ensemble cast of The Expendables 2. The films featured action legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis.
Jean-Claude Van Damme suffers from bipolar disorder. Van Damme has been married five times. The marriages were two four different women. He married Gladys Portugues twice. He has two children with her Kristopher Van Varenberg and Bianca Bree.
