Billie Joe Armstrong is an American singer and guitarist. He is known for being the singer and guitarist for punk rock band Green Day. He together with his Green Day band mates Mike Drint and Tré Cool has been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
Billie Joe Armstrong was born on February 17, 1972 in Oakland, California. His parents are Andrew “Andy” Armstrong and Ollie Jackson. He is the sixth child born to them. He was raised in Rodeo, California. His interest in music started at a young age. He attended Hillcrest Elementary School in Rodeo. At the age of 10, Armstrong met Mike Dirnt in the school cafeteria and they immediately bonded over their love of music. On his 18th birthday he dropped out to pursue his musical career.
Billie Joe Armstrong formed a band Sweet Children in 1986 with best friend Mike Drint, John Kiffmeyer and Sean Hughes. In 1989 they changed the band name to Green Day because they loved marijuana. They released their first album that year named 1,000 Hours. In 1990, Tré Cool joined the band. The trio of Armstrong, Drint and Cool would be recognized as the Green Day everyone knows. They released the hit albums like Dookie in 1990’s and American Idont in 2000’s. With the success he became one of the biggest rockstars of the generation. In 2015 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Billie Joe Armstrong met Adrienne Nesser at one of Green Day’s early performances in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They married on July 2, 1994; the day after their wedding, Adrienne discovered she was pregnant. Armstrong’s son, Joseph Marciano Armstrong, who was born on February 28, 1995 He plays drums in a Berkeley-based band named Swimmers. Billie Joe’s second son Jakob Danger is a guitarist and singer/songwriter who released his first material online in 2015.
