Tanzir Islam Britto, also known by the pseudonym “Sedative Hypnotics” a Physician, and an engaged social media activist. Born with a passion for making a difference, he has carved a unique path for himself, blending his dedication to the medical profession with his love for writing and a fervent commitment to social causes.

Early Life and Education

Britto was born on January 1, 1990, in Bangladesh. He embarked on a remarkable journey in the field of medicine that would eventually shape his life and career.

His educational journey began at Bangladesh Bank High School, where he completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC). He continued his schooling at the Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, India, where he spent a part of his formative years. Afterwards, he completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Ideal School and College, setting the stage for his academic pursuits.

Britto’s dedication to medicine led him to enrol at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College (BSMMC), formerly known as Faridpur Medical College. At BSMMC, he pursued and completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, laying the foundation for his medical career. However, his journey during this period was marked by challenges, including health-related issues that prompted him to migrate from BSMMC during his MBBS studies.

Medical Career and Training

Despite the challenges, Britto’s commitment to medicine remained unwavering. Following his MBBS, he undertook an internship at Dhaka Medical College (DMC), where he honed his practical medical skills and solidified his passion for the noble profession of medicine.

His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue post-graduate training in Medicine at DMC, further expanding his medical expertise. Notably, he received specialized training in Endocrinology from the prestigious Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine, and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM).

Britto’s journey in the medical field also included a stint as a Resident in Nephrology at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. However, personal reasons led him to make the difficult decision to discontinue his residency there.

Currently, Tanzir Islam Britto is in the migration process at the National Institute of Kidney Diseases & Urology (NIKDU), where he aspires to specialize in Nephrology. Alongside his academic pursuits, he actively serves patients at a kidney hospital, contributing to his fulfillment as a medical practitioner.

Literary Pursuits

Beyond his medical career, Britto is a multifaceted individual with diverse interests. He finds enjoyment in watching web series, movies, and documentaries, and he is an avid reader. Some of the medical textbooks on his reading list include ‘Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine,’ ‘Robbins Basic Pathology,’ and ‘Guyton and Hall Textbook of Medical Physiology.’

In addition to the Shahbag protests, he was actively involved in the MISSED Call Alert movement, which protested against extra charges imposed by mobile network companies on internet usage. He also participated in the ‘Tin Morol er Biruddhe Protibad’ movement in 2014, which protested attempts by the Australian, Indian, and English cricket boards to exclude Bangladesh from playing Test cricket.

Hiatus and Return

Following his experiences with these movements, Britto decided to take a hiatus from the online world for four years. During this time, he focused on building his medical career, eventually finding satisfaction as a doctor.
