Sutapa Sikdar is a Bollywood film producer, dialogue writer and screenplay writer. She is better known for being the wife of late Irrfan Khan.

She was born on September 18, 1967 in New Delhi to Assamese family. She spent most of her childhood in raising up in New Delhi and did her schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Andwers Ganj. She was passionate about making her career in film industry thus quickly enrolled at National School of Drama. It was the time when she met her husband Irrfan Khan and both fell in love with other while studying. Although they made it clear and decide to not marry until they find employment in the industry.

Irrfan and Sutapa met as classmates in National School Of Drama (NSD). Irrfan was a very promising student, and Mira Nair, who was at NSD in 1986 while she was casting for Salaam Bombay, would vouch for that. “I noticed his focus, his intensity, his very remarkable look – his hooded eyes,” Mira had said to Anees Chhabra for his book Irrfan Khan, The Man, The dreamer, The Star.

She married to his love Irrfan Khan on February 23, 1995 only after getting recognition in the industry. Irrfan was one of the finest actors ever in the Bollywood of his generation and today, he died after long battling with neuroendocrine tumour. He was the face of India in abroad and worked in several Hollywood productions such as The Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire, The Mighty Heart, Inferno and Jurassic World.

Making her Bollywood debut, she wrote the dialogues of the Manisha Koirala, Salman Khan, and Nana Patekar starrer Khamoshi: The Musical. After her debut, she wrote the dialogues of movies such as Supari, Shabd, and Kahaani. Turning producer, Sutupa was associated with the 2016 movie Madaari, which featured Irrfan in the lead. The following year, in 2017, she produced the comedy romance Qarib Qarib Singlle, which marks Parvathy‘s Bollywood debut.
