Saddam Hussein was the 5th President of Iraq. He served his term from 1979 to 2003. Saddam had a key role in the 17 July Revolution. Saddam Hussein was depicted as a brutal dictator by the countries in the Western Hemisphere. He was opposed to Israel. The United States of America and the United Kingdom invaded Iraq to dispose Saddam in 2003. He was captured in 2003. Saddam Hussein was executed in 2006.
Saddam Hussein was born on 28th April 1937. He was born in a small town of Al Awza. He was born to Subha Tulfah al-Mussallat. He never knew his father Hussein Abid al-Majid. He was sent to his uncle’s plae as a child. His mother married Ibrahim al-Hassan. Saddam Hussein’s stepfather treated him harshly. Because of that reason Saddam Hussein fled back to his uncle’s place. During the 1960’s he became an effective politician. He was going up the rank pretty nicely. Saddam Hussein was a member of the Ba’ath Party. In 1976 he became the General of the Iraqi Armed Forces. He became of the best men of the government. By this time he was hugely influencing the Iraqi government. He was the de facto leader before ng officially recognized in 1979. Upon ascension, Saddam Hussein executed the disloyal members of his group. He nationalized oil and many other industries. He took control all banks under him. He was one of the most extravagant dictators. Saddam Hussein had a taste for expensive goods. His son Uday Hussein also had a playboy lifestyle. Saddam Hussein declared was on Iran and Israel. The war with Iraq lasted 8 years. Because of Saddam Hussein’s weapon of mass destruction USA and UK invaded Iraq. There were other reasons to the invasion too. Saddam Hussein was linked to Al-Qaeda. George W. Bush and Tony Blair started the war on these reasons. Saddam was captured in 2003. He was held at a trial in Iraq. Saddam Hussein was hanged on 30th December 2006. It was the date of the Islamic festival Eid Ul-Azha.
Saddam Hussein married his cousin Sajida Talfah. They had five children together. Uday Hussein was Saddam’s eldest son. Uday was considered heir apparent but Uday’s actions forced him to lose his title to younger brother Qusay Hussein. Both of his sons were killed by the US Task Force. Saddam had three daughters – Raghad, Rana, and Hala Hussein. Saddam Hussein murdered both of his daughter’s husbands. His daughters are currently living in Amman, Jordan.
