Richard Tiffany Gere is an American actor and activist. He began acting in the 1970s, playing a supporting role in Looking for Mr. Goodbar and a starring role in Days of Heaven. His other major films include Runaway Bride, Primal Fear, First Knight, and The Jackal.

Richard Gere was born on August 31, 1949, in Philadelphia, the second of five children of Doris Ann (Tiffany), a homemaker, and Homer George Gere, an insurance salesman, both Mayflower descendants.

Known for his charisma, charm and good looks, Gere earned People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” honor in 1999. He played against type for 2002’s Unfaithful as Diane Lane’s cuckolded husband. That same year, Gere returned to his musical theater roots with the film adaptation of the Broadway hit Chicago. He won a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of slick lawyer Billy Flynn.

He married model Cindy Crawford in 1991, but the couple separated in 1995. He then married Carey Lowell in 2002. He and Carey separated in 2013, then he briefly dated Padme Lakshmi in 2014. He has a son named Homer.
