Ranveer Singh Bhavnani

Ranveer Singh is an Indian actor working in Bollywood. He is the recipient of several awards, including two Filmfare Awards, and is among the highest-paid actors in the country.

After completing a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington, Singh returned to India to pursue a career in film. He briefly worked in advertising and went on to make his acting debut in 2010 with a leading role in Yash Raj Films‘ romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat.

Early Life

Ranveer was born 6 July 1985 into a Sindhi family in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He has an elder sister named Ritika Bhavnani. Singh is the maternal cousin of actress Sonam Kapoor and producer Rhea Kapoor, daughters of actor Anil Kapoor and wife Sunita Kapoor (née Bhavnani).

Ranveer Singh had always wanted to be an actor since his childhood. However, during his college days, he felt that the idea of acting was far-fetched and focused on creative writing.

While pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University, he again became interested in acting and after coming back to India, he started auditioning for lead roles in the Hindi film industry.

Career

Ranveer made his acting debut in 2010 with a leading role in Yash Raj Films‘ romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat. The film emerged as a critical and commercial success, earning Singh a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Singh rose to prominence with starring roles in the acclaimed romantic drama Lootera (2013), the tragic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), the action-drama Gunday (2014) and the comedy-drama Dil Dhadakne Do (2015). Singh’s acclaimed portrayal of Bajirao I in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical romance Bajirao Mastani (2015), one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films and for which he won several accolades including the Filmfare Award for Best Actor, established him as a leading actor in the Hindi film industry. His highest-grossing release came with Bhansali‘s period drama Padmaavat (2018), in which he portrayed Alauddin Khilji to critical acclaim.

Personal Life

Singh began dating Deepika Padukone, his co-star in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, in August 2012. In October 2018, the couple announced their impending marriage. The following month, they married in traditional Konkani Hindu and Sikh Anand Karaj (Singh’s paternal grandfather is Sikh) ceremonies at Lake Como, Italy.

Singh has appeared in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since 2012, peaking at the eighth position in 2018. He was also featured by GQ in their listing of the 50 most influential young Indians of 2017.

In addition to his acting career, Singh endorses several brands, including Adidas, Head & Shoulders, Ching’s, Jack & Jones, Thums Up and MakeMyTrip. In 2019, he launched his own record label named IncInk to promote local musicians.
