Paloma Faith, is an English singer, songwriter, and actress who rose to fame in 2009 after releasing her debut album Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful?. The album has been certified double platinum in the UK. Faith is known for her retro and eccentric style.
Early Life
Faith was born on July 21, 1981, in Hackney and raised in Stoke Newington as Paloma Faith Blomfield. She was born to an English mother and Spanish father in Hackney, although her parents were both from Norfolk.
Her parents divorced when she was four years old and due to this, she was raised by just her mother who moved to Stoke Newington, London. As a child growing up, Faith grew an interest in dancing and was encouraged by her mother to take weekly ballet classes.
Paloma Faith attended the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, working odd jobs to support herself. After finishing her A-Levels at City and Islington College, Faith took her love for dancing to a whole new level as she studied for a BA in Contemporary Dance at Leeds University. While pursuing her degree, Faith worked as a hip-hop dancer at a few nightclubs, to hone her craft.
Career
Faith released her debut album Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful? in 2009, featuring the top twenty singles “Stone Cold Sober” and “New York”. The album reached number nine in the United Kingdom and was later certified double-platinum in the country. Besides receiving four Brit Award nominations, winning British Female Solo Artist in 2015, she has also made feature film appearances in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Dread and the 2007 remake of St Trinian’s.
Faith released her second album, Fall to Grace, on 28 May 2012. It was preceded by the single, “Picking Up the Pieces”, which peaked at number 7 in the UK.
Faith’s third studio album A Perfect Contradiction was released in 2014.
Faith has a mezzo-soprano vocal range. Her music often blends soul and elements of gospel; she has been consequently compared to Amy Winehouse and Adele.
She has also made feature film appearances in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Dread, the 2007 remake of St Trinian’s and Youth.
Personal life of Paloma Faith
She was briefly married to New Zealand chef Rian Haynes in 2005; however, they split after eight months and were divorced four years later.
Faith gave birth to her 1st child at age 35 via the emergency Caesarean section on December 5, 2016. Child’s father is her boyfriend, Leyman Lahcine.
