Monta Ellis is an American professional basketball player for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ellis attended Lanier High School in Jackson where he was named Parade Magazine High School Player of the Year 2005 (along with Greg Oden) and a USA Today All-American his senior year. Ellis entered the 2005 NBA draft directly after graduating from Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi, where he was drafted with the 40th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. He was traded from Golden State to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012 where he played one full season before signing with the Dallas Mavericksin 2013. He became a free agent in 2015 before signing with the Pacers.
On July 14, 2015, Ellis signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Indiana Pacers. He made his debut for the Pacers in the team’s season opener against the Toronto Raptors on October 28, recording 9 points and 6 assists in a 106–99 loss. On November 8, he scored a then season-high 25 points in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Ellis is the son of Marcella Singleton and Rosa Ellis. Ellis and his wife, Juanika, have two children. Ellis is also an avid fisherman in his spare time.
