Manoj Kumar

Manoj Kumar is a famous Indian film actor and director. He appeared in numerous films which made him ageless forever. He is famous for his patriotic appearance in many of his films.

Manoj Kumar born on 24 July in 1937 in present Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. His childhood name was Harikishan Giri Goswami. His family had to migrate to Delhi due to the Partition in 1947. However, he completed his graduation from Hindu college and the University of Delhi.

He loved films and wanted to become an actor from his childhood. He was a big fan of actor Dilip Kumar. Manoj first appeared in the film ‘Kaanch ki gudia’ in 1960 as a lead role. In 1962 he appeared in ‘Hariyali Aur Raasta’ in 1962 and ‘Woh Koun Thi’ in 1964. In the 60’s he experienced success as his romantic films like ‘Honeymoon’, ‘Naqli Nawab’, ‘Sawan ki Ghata’ became box office hits. Social films like ‘Shaadi’, ‘Grihasti’, ‘Pehchaan’ and thrillers like ‘Gumnaam’, ‘Anita’ were also successful.

In the 60’s the industry of Hindi films experienced the patriotic role played by Manoj Kumar in different films. In 1965 he appeared in the film ‘Shaeed’ which earned a huge success. This film brought him a status like a national hero. Inspiring by this, he appeared in the film ‘Upkaar’ in 1967. This film was also very successful in the box office and brought him Filmfare Award. He appeared in ‘Purab and Pashchim’ in 1970, ‘Be-Imaan’ and ‘Shor’ in 1972. Day by day he became legendary as an actor.

In personal life, Manoj Kumar married Shashi Goswami. The couple has two sons. He is an active politician and joined the Shiv Sena in 2004. He achieved the nickname ‘Bharat Kumar’ for his patriotic films. Manoj won the Padma Shri honor in 1992 for his contribution to the culture of India.
