Kô Shibasaki was born August 5, 1981 in Tokyo. Her birth name is Yukie Yamamura but she is better known as Kō Shibasaki. Her stage name is taken from the main character of Junko Kawakami’s manga “Golden Delicious Apple Sherbet“. Shibasaki is a Japanese singer and actress by profession. Although she does not compose her own music, Ko Shibasaki writes the lyrics for most of her songs. She started her career at 14 when her talent was discovered by a star agent. She has worked in many TV shows and commercials. She’s beginning to be more famous thanks to her excellent performance in the movie Battle Royale. She is one of the country’s top-tier actresses, having starred in many TV shows, films and commercials. She has reached a star statute not only in Japan but all over East Asia. In 2013, Shibasaki made her “Hollywood debut” in 47 Ronin, a Keanu Reeves-led adaptation of the famous Chushingura storey of samurai loyalty and revenge. Other than acting and singing, Shibasaki is also well received for her participation in commercials for numerous products such as Epson printers, Glico Pocky’s, Daihatsu vehicles, as well as the mineral water from France – Volvic.
