Gina Torres

Gina Torres is an American television and movie actress best known for her roles in science-fiction and fantasy. Torres is a mezzo-soprano and studied singing, including opera and jazz in high school of Music and Performing Arts “Fiorello La Guardia” in New York. In 1992 she had her first notable television role in the series Law & Order, in which she appeared three years later again, but in a different role. Her first appearance was in Unnatural Pursuits

Torres was born at the Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in Manhattan, the youngest of three children in a close-knit Cuban American family. Her family lived briefly in Washington Heights before moving to The Bronx. Her parents were both of multiracial Cuban descent, and her father worked as a typesetter for La Prensa and The New York Daily News.
