Alka Yagnik is a famous Indian playback singer. She sang numerous hit songs in many super hit films of Bollywood. As a matter of fact, she is one of the leading characters who influenced to raise the popularity of Hindi musical film culture from the 90’s.

Early Life

Alka Yagnik was born on 20 March 1966 in Kolkata, India. Her parents were Gujarati by origin. Her mother Shubha Yagnik was a Classical Music performer. She started school in Kolkata was very good at singing from her childhood. In 1972 she first sang for all India radio. In 1976 her family moved to Mumbai. Her mother was determined to bring her up as a singer. Alka’s amazing voice helped her with that.

Alka’s musical career began with singing bhajans for all India Radio. She first sang playback in 1981 for the film ‘Laawaris’. She achieved more popularity by singing ‘Ek Do Tin’ in the film ‘Tezaab’ in 1988.

Besides Hindi songs, she sang in many other languages of India such as Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bangla etc. She worked with many famous Indian composers like A R Rahman, Anu Malik, Rajesh Roshan and many others. She did many duet songs along with Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Abhijeet, and Hariharan. He sang for many hit films of Bollywood like ‘Baazigar’, ‘Khiladi’, ‘Pardes’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’, ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’, ‘Swades’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and many others.

Alka Yagnik won many awards for her outstanding musical performance. He has a record of winning 36 nominations of the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. In fact, she won the National Film Award two times. She achieved many other film and musical awards and honours.
