Mammootty

Muhammad Kutty Ismail Paniparambil known as Mammootty is an Indian film actor and producer best known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He was born on 7 September 1951 in Kerala, India. His father Ismail who was an agriculturist and his mother Fatima who was a housewife.

He started acting in lead role in 1980’s. Vilkanundu Swapnangal was Mammootty’s first released film. His roles in Mela, Sphodanam and Thrishna, made his as a hero. In 1982, he made a trend in the role of a police officer in the movie Yavanika. He got his major breakthrough with the commercial success of the 1987 film New Delhi. His acting career is over three decade and has acted over 350 films make him legend in Malayalam film industry.

He was awarded 3 National Film Awards for Best Actor, 7 Kerala State Film Awards, and 13 Filmfare Awards South. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1998 for his contributions in the industry. He is the father of today’s popular Malayalam film star actor Dulquer Salmaan.
